Planning a Research Project and Building a Timeline
A thesis or dissertation contains many connected tasks that may unfold over months or years. A research timeline helps transform that large project into smaller stages with visible priorities, dependencies, and deadlines.
Start with stages, not individual days
Long research projects are easier to manage when they are divided into meaningful phases of work .

Some tasks can happen at the same time. Others cannot begin until an earlier step is complete.

The manuscript has been compared with submission requirements.
Leave room for research to change
A research timeline is a planning tool, not a prediction.
Sources may be difficult to obtain, approvals may take longer than expected, methods may change, and analysis may uncover new questions.
A useful timeline includes enough flexibility to absorb reasonable changes without losing sight of the final goal.
