Reviewing a Thesis Before Submission
Thesis review involves more than correcting spelling and grammar. A complete review considers the research argument, organization, evidence, citations, consistency, formatting, and whether the document fulfills its intended purpose.
Review from the outside in
Proofreading individual sentences is important, but it should not be the first stage of a serious thesis review.
Begin with the structure and logic of the complete document , then move toward paragraphs, sentences, citations, and formatting.

A reader should be able to understand the progression from the original research problem to the conclusions.
Research problem
Is the problem clearly established?
Research question
Does the project remain focused on the question it set out to investigate?
Literature
Does the scholarship establish the necessary context?
Methodology
Does the method appropriately address the research question?
Findings
Are the results presented clearly and accurately?
Discussion
Are the findings interpreted rather than merely repeated?
Conclusion
Do the conclusions follow from the evidence presented?
Check the evidence behind the claims
Important claims should be supported by the appropriate evidence, analysis, or scholarly sources.
Watch for statements that sound certain but are not adequately supported.
These can appear when conclusions have become stronger than the data, when citations are missing, or when assumptions are presented as findings.
Consistency matters more than it first appears
A long academic document can gradually accumulate small inconsistencies.
Proofread after the major revisions
Detailed sentence-level editing is most efficient after the major structural and substantive changes are finished.
Otherwise, you may spend time polishing text that later needs to be rewritten or removed.
